The comparison must start with a subtraction. Alcatraz is a separate official ferry ticket, while the Golden Gate Bridge, Presidio, waterfront, Chinatown, North Beach and Mission streets need no attraction pass. Most headline savings examples count secondary doors before pricing the actual first trip.

The Alcatraz test
Neither current pass includes a ferry that lands on Alcatraz. The National Park Service lists Alcatraz City Cruises as the only authorized landing provider and the adult day tour at $47.95. A bay cruise that sails past the island is not an Alcatraz visit.

Direct wins. The $47.95 ferry is outside the passes and most of the remaining day is public space.

Explorer can work. Check wind, fog and booking windows before assigning value to each outdoor product.
Friction can turn savings into a worse route
Go City currently requires reservations for several tours and bike products. Its included one-day Muni Passport requires pickup at a Pier 39 box office and does not cover BART or airport travel. Alcatraz uses its own official ferry inventory.
